Ajax is located in the Golden Horseshoe area of South Central Ontario and is part of the Greater Toronto Area. Once considered to be a small town surrounded by agricultural areas, Ajax is now becoming known as a bedroom community to Toronto.The town is known for being a war-born community, named after one of three ships involved in the first significant British naval victory of the Second World War, the HMS Ajax. Situated approximately 25 km (16 mi) east of Toronto and along Lake Ontario, Ajax features over 64 km (38 mi) of unspoiled parkland and natural areas throughout the town. Ajax is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, golfing, and fishing. Visitors can enjoy some of these activities in the Greenwood Conservation Area and Rotary Park.
